As each body bag was delivered to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office, it was assigned a number and referenced as "MC Doe _," "MC Doe _," or just "Doe _."

Most were eventually identified with personal names through dental records, fingerprints, and DNA.  The process of identifying all the remains continued for more than a year, and some were never identified.  The high number identified by fingerprint comparison and DNA samples prompts a researcher to wonder why the government had fingerprints and DNA samples for comparison on so many of the Davidians.

At some point, the assigned identities were summarized in a document entitled "Waco ID's," which the Museum has termed the McClennan County Identification List.  The Museum's copy was obtained from Judge James C. Collier, Justice of the Peace of Precinct 2, McLennan County, Texas, and is included at the bottom of this pagefollows this article.  The Judge's office also provided the Museum with copies of the autopsies, recovery diagrams, and death certificates.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner, Dr. Nizam Peerwani, testified at the trial of the surviving Branch Davidians on the methods of recovery, autopsy, and identification (transcript pgs. 5962-66).  In reviewing this material, a researcher may discover a number of anomalies, some of which are discussed in Anomalies in the Forensic Process.  The Medical Examiner's recovery diagrams will also be of interest to serious researchers.

Collated Identification List

This table is a collation of lists of Mt. Carmel casualties from several sources.  The primary source is the Judge Collier's List.  That information is collated with the Autopsy Reports and Inquest Certificates provided by Judge Collier's office.  Also included is the information from the Report to the Deputy Attorney General on the Events at Waco, Texas (cached), the FBI list, Clive Doyle's list, David Thibodeau's list (A Place Called Waco), and trial testimony.

By default, this list is sorted by MC Doe number.  The reader can sort the list by surname, given name, method of identification, or date of identification by clicking on the header of the column.

Linked to each MC Doe number is a page with the autopsy report and death certificate for the individual.  In May 1996, Judge Collier confirmed by telephone that, since the issue of that list, no additional identifications had been established.
